A colour-coordinated spaniel called Brin

Brin is possibly the loudest dog photography client we’ve ever had. Apparently he barks wherever he goes and he certainly brought his big personality to this photoshoot.

He also looked superb against the scrub on the moors, coordinating beautifully! As a result, most of the shoot was in colour with just a couple of black and white images.

As we’ve mentioned in previous pic of the shoot posts, light is our number one concern out on a shoot. Running through the heather, for example, has to be done into the light, in order to catch it in our subject’s eyes. See how Brin’s eyes shine in the shots and there are no displeasing shadows on his face – it’s all about direction of light, as well as the quality of it.

When we were photographing his action shots, Brin was quite unpredictable in terms of the direction he would run in. We had to choose narrow paths with high bush to either side to steer him on the path we wanted him to go, while we waited with the camera focused ready to capture an awesome shot.

We managed to steer Brin away from the dirty puddles at the start of the shoot but, as we came to the end of the session, he enjoyed a good paddle and we captured a great image as a result. Look how happy he is!

A Jack Russell brings us to our knees: pic of the shoot five

An insight in to the world of a dog photographer.

Being a specialist dog photographer means we get to look at gorgeous faces all day long and spend time with some of the funniest characters you could meet, like Milo the Jack Russell terrier. Here we share some photographs from his shoot.

Milo literally brought us to our knees

Ears can be so expressive

Ears can be so expressive

It’s becoming clear as I write these pic of the shoot stories that I find it impossible to choose just one photograph to share with you. Every dog we meet is full of different expressions, characteristics and ways of making their owner say “aww”.

Simple portraits always go down well

Simple portraits always go down well

When we photograph little chaps like Milo, it always presents us with an added challenge. From making sure the dog can see over long grass or heather to getting down to our subject’s height, we have to be more selective about our locations to suit the smaller clients. Milo, who is shorter than our very own Bruce, literally brought us to our knees.

It's always good to capture each dog's little tricks

Looking at these images, it’s plain to see why his pet parents frequently revert to using his nickname, Smiles.
